NVIDIA Releases DLSS Plugin for Unreal Engine

It seems likely that many more games than now will benefit from DLSS technology from NVIDIA. This week NVIDIA officially released the DLSS plugin on the Unreal Engine market. This means that any developer using the Unreal Engine 4 game engine can take advantage of DLSS technology.

Unreal Engine currently supports Ray Tracing technology. However, this technology has a high performance cost when used alone. DLSS comes into play right here, allowing the AI to upscale the image from a lower resolution for higher frame rates with less visual distortion.

Features introduced as part of the Unreal DLSS plugin are as follows:
  • Uncompromising quality with higher performance:  Enjoy ray tracing and ultra-high resolutions with NVIDIA DLSS technology. It uses advanced AI processing to produce a better image quality, sometimes comparable to native resolution, while only making up a fraction of the pixels. New transient feedback techniques give you incredibly sharp image details and improved frame-to-frame stability.
  • Customizable options:  DLSS allows you to choose many image quality modes from quality mode to ultra performance. You can choose how you want to balance quality and performance by controlling the game's internal rendering resolution. Performance mode provides 4X artificial intelligence resolution (1080p -> 4K), while the new ultra performance mode provides 9X artificial intelligence resolution (1440p-> 8K).
To use the plugin, you need to install Unreal Engine version 4.26 and NVIDIA Game Ready 461.40 driver or higher.
